The original - Oil on Canvas / 20” x 24” was created in part for the “All Together Now, A Tribute To The Beatles” exhibit at Gallery Nucleus. When I was approached to do something for this show I downloaded a ton of Beatles music and realized that, even though I’ve never considered myself a Beatlemaniac, I knew more songs by them, by heart, than any other sole band or musician [and I consider myself a bit of a music buff in a variety of genres]. I also know many who would agree to that same fact. This was, for the most part, the kickstarter for the piece. I knew there was something about their music, aside from the fact that it has just always been popular, that caused it to resonate with so many people. Something that polarizes people and gets them motivated and inspired. A Day in the Life has always been my favorite tune - way ahead of its time, and to me was a perfect example of their ability to inspire action. The rest kind of fell into place, as John’s lyrics are the most haunting, and he, as an icon, has always had an instant ability to polarize the populous.
